I quit, was fired from and laid off from my boatyard job. Sorry, I've been avoiding friends for six months and never wrote back to Jacob's happy birthday message (one in July and one in September) because friends would rather hear happy stories. But I have an interview tomorrow at a law firm here in Bellingham. Too bad that with each breath of acetone I inhaled at the boatyard I forgot one significant quote uttered by Thomas Jefferson. Hope I can win them over with my shiny new blazer/tie combination and my fierce mario kart ds championship spirit. I've also gained 40 lbs. Any food-aversion tips?

heck fest is this weekend in anacortes, which is a good time of the year because so many good artists gather together and hang out and play music. but it is also a sad time because kate is so sick and can't make it. And also I have to let Adam LaFayette down and not climb to the top of jack mountain, and let dennis down by not watching his dinner show saturday. dennis' new record is pretty great. he has improved as a lyricist, and it's interesting to hear what's actually in his head. that's what I want to hear. what a lovely lovely summer.

Today I tried a new silk-screen technique I thought might work where I printed the image onto a t-shirt transfer then ironed it onto the screen. It didn't fill in the holes like I planned, but it left an alright outline for me to cover in the typical way. I call it "chef" and I'm not sure how to upload using kate's mac, so I guess I'll post the results later.

: nobody loves you, elephant teapot
I got a new job and I'm happy to boast that I'm making full use of my degree in political science. Or not quite, but I quit my dishwahing job for sodexho. Like peter gibbons I left during a shift and just stopped going. I don't know if they fired me, or if they were concerned that I never came back, but nobody called and asked and I got my last two paychecks in the mail a couple weeks later. And also like peter gibbons, now I'm making more money than I can handle with full medical and dental. I haven't been to a dentist since high school! It's not exacly a glamerous job, but I tooled my experience working on tiny outboard fishing boats and got a job repairing yachts at a drydock. The people are nice, it's easy work, the money is fantastic and it's something I can do until we leave bellingham for grad school, or whatever. tonight I'm going out and buying a fancy new bed for kate. today on my lunch break I went to a hamburger dive and there was a stack of magazines. so I picked up the recent issue of time with allen greenspam's picture on the front and I noticed he looks a lot younger lately. then I saw that it wasn't the recent issue of time at all, but the november 1997 issue of time, complete with an essay by hunter s. thompson about how he hijacked johnny depp's car and checkbook and wrote bad checks all over hollywood for a day. but that was of little consequence. below the old issue of time and other incredibly old issues of magazines I discovered the 1991 copy of Mariner's Magazine with griffey and his dad on the cover. What a great weired relic. So I relished over the swell memories of that great season (the last season that griffey sr. played at the same time and jr). And I went throught and jogged my memory with names like omar visquel and harold reynolds and alvin davis. I was certainly at the park the day that issue debuted. we abandoned the sorrows of my mom dying by getting seats in the 300 level that year. the next year I barely recognized anyone left on the team and I lost interest in baseball. And though I officially claimed on the back of my little league baseball card that Dave Valle was my favorite player, it was only out of protocol because every other kid in unincorporated king county listed griffey. but the truth is, nobody yelled louder than myself when griffey, a fellow southpaw, stepped up to bat. Nobody that is but my dad. How he created that noise I never knew. While my screams disappeared into the rest of the 300 level rumble, his drifted the guys on the field. So anyway, I wanted that magazine. And I thought about stealing it. And I thought about offering the $3.00 suggested on the cover. But providence stepped in and the lady who owened the burger dive, out the blue, asked if I wanted to just take it. Was it that obvious that I wanted it? Also, there is a great ad in the middle for Bases Loaded II on NES. It must have been a good ad campaign because I owned that game. Still own it if you count roms. Speaking of roms, hey chris, any update on those roms? No hurry. Just wondering. Finally, to truly update my situation, and since I may not update again for a while, I've been really into Smallville lately. I've never seen it on TV, and I couldn't tell you what day or time it's supposed to air. But I happened to pick up the first disc on 88 cent day and now I'm hooked. Smallville tight. 8th April 2006

At last, Reason 3.0 - 1.22 gigs at 48000 bps - done! It's just as great as I thought it would be. The mastering rack alone makes the three week download worth it. Now I'm working on After Effects cs2 to complete the rest of the cs2 collection. And last night I finished autocad 2006 at the labs, which isn't so hard to pick up after a thousand 3ds tutorials. And visual studio with a toolbar plugin that incorporates max worlds into vb. i no longer can imagine life without torrents. today kate surprised me with a trip to the skagit tulip festival and we took a ride in a helicopter! It felt like mash except with lots of tulips.

After a search of nearly every direct connect software, leaching software, or any other kind of downloading software, I finally found one that will work past the school computer lab firewalls. Azureus, thank you. And since I've discovered the wonders of torrents, and their download resumes, I've been going into a little-well-known computer lab in the basement of the geology building and downloading tons of stuff onto the hard drives and retrieving them in the morning. I graduated last week and so I probably don't have long before they discover I'm a)hogging their bandwidth and pirating software on school computers or b)still using my computer account. but after effects is so worth it.

: I like ebert's use of Zorro as a verb
The sublime adventuress has turned into the kind of wife who wants her husband to quit Zorroing because "you do not know your own son," and besides Zorro comes home late, she never knows where he is, etc. We are inflicted with such dialogue as: "People still need Zorro!" "No -- you still need Zorro!" "You're overreacting!" Saints preserve us from Mr. and Mrs. Zorro as the Bickersons. And what are we to make of their son, Joaquin (a good little actor named Adrian Alonso), who dresses like Little Lord Fauntleroy but has developed, apparently by osmosis, all of the skills of his father, such as shadowing bad guys, eavesdropping on plots, improvising in emergencies and exposing a dastardly scheme to overthrow the government. 6th September 2005

I spent the summer on top of a gone out mountain up in the high hills and once in a while I came down to find supplies like tonight, only i'm here just to register for quarter exodus omega and then i'm back up again out of reach and taking crazy pictures of the unbelievable scene in my head (which i was at first amazed by and now i'm a little scared by) but i'm going to say goodbye with a big climb up to the top of ol' jack and think and stand on my head and gaze down at that wild gone out lake and that crooked old bent thumb up north which spent the whole summer blowing my mind in descending order until now i'm ready to go up to its level and dig what it has to feed me and then i'll work out my last three ceremonial days washing boats and crossing log booms and exploring far out little islands like nothing passing through nothing and then on again. I also met this little millionaire with nothing in his pocket and more knowledge about boat motors than anybody i'll ever likely meet with a story about almost everything, laughing at his own jokes which aren't even jokes who sits keen with sincere interest and honest like a little kid at the millionaires with millions of dollars but he climbs around the mountains and zooms around the lake free like a thousand millionaires, or free like no cat i've ever seen anyway, or more free than millionaires may think that they are, and he doesn't know it by not even a mile.

I came down from the mountains today so that I could visit Kate and then head back up on thursday. How is everybody? Josh, I just got the message you left for me three weeks ago. Sorry I didn't get back to you, man! I was inspired by Kevin's 'make every day fun' line and so I thought I would provide an example. Yesterday I proved that a wheel barrow is seaworthy but cannot sail with me on board.

This is going to be my only post for the summer, so I'm going to put up some pictures of the last couple months.
![]() Dennis Driscoll in Bellingham before he went to Europe about a month ago. I got an email from him today. Apparently he fried his power converter yesterday when he plugged a laptop into it. ![]() Kate playing the keyboards with The Seaworthies when they opened for Built to Spill last Friday. ![]() This is the lake I am spending the summer at. It isn't accessed by road, so I hike in. I just came down for yesterday and today to get supplies, see Kate at her new job, email a professor and check my grades (A, A-, B+). ![]() Kate is working at K Records in Olympia and staying at Calvin Johnson's house. He has more records than I believed once possible for a human to have. This picture is evidence of it, and his whole house is like that. Anyway, I'm headed back up into the mountains and I'll be back in September. I hope that Josh and Kevin got my latest letters! I didn't go to sleep for a couple days while the quarter was ending, so I'm sorry if they're boring. Mostly I wrote stuff like "I'm tired. I have to clean the house, but I'm too tired," etc... The mountains are isolated and beautiful, but it's rugged and difficult, but I feel like I am more prepared now with my new supplies. 6th June 2005
